Empower. Webster’s dictionary defines the word like this: “To promote the self-actualization or influence of”, to “Enable”. Most of us regard the term in an introverted way, toward our own self. We use it many times to try and explain the fact that we were able to take a little more control over ourselves. It’s also used many times as we see a new burst of self-confidence. We’ve all had the opportunity to feel “empowered”, even if it was just for one moment. Perhaps it was at work, when we were trusted with a project that we personally saw to fruition. For that one moment, we were given the shot of self-confidence and perhaps even more responsibility as a result. Made us feel real good, that’s for sure.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen as often as we like. We take direction from others at work, perform a task, and move on. We continue to do that, and maybe even take it to another level to try for that promotion, raise, or monthly bonus. We do that because we’ve been taught to work that way by example from those who came before us, as well as in the example of others around us. However, that hard work, that “nose to the grindstone” mentality hasn’t been enough lately. It hasn’t stopped companies from closing their doors, moving out of the area, or downsizing resulting in good, hard working individuals to lose their jobs. Not too empowering, is it?
What’s the alternative? One alternative is by taking control of our financial lives. That can only happen if perhaps you own your own business and be your own boss, you say. “But, I don’t have the expertise, I don’t have the capital to hire employees, or rent office space, etc., etc. How am I going to be my own boss?” Have you ever thought of multi-level marketing (MLM) ? It is a wonderful way to not only work for yourself, but by yourself, while at the same time have a network of those working with you that can help you as you go along. MLM has been around for a long time. It’s not the traditional way of thinking when it comes to earning income and making a living. However, MLM is a great way for those to empower themselves to take on life’s challenges and meet them with a smile. Mult-level marketing can be as empowering as anything you have ever done.
